Serious games are commonly used to educate and assist young and inexperienced users to become familiar with various concepts. Furthermore, gamification techniques are also widely used in a variety of educational and operational training platforms to engage the users and have them constantly interacting with the learning procedure. However, most serious games or gamified platforms create their own gamification mechanics, with many times no performing a direct connection to educational objectives. In this article, a description of different serious games and platforms that adapt gamification techniques is performed in addition to their mapping with their corresponding gamification mechanisms and rewarding axes. This research aims at highlighting the best practices upon creating a gamification system whilst also initial thoughts upon designing a global scoring system for various platform types as an ad hoc solution, resulting on a fast and coherent methodology towards l meaningful gamified learning procedures.
